Nick Poen (Interior Supervisor with the Marine Spill Response Corporation) advises HFSM to begin developing a formal Equipment Decontamination Plan outlining cleaning procedures for boats, boom, skimmers, heavy equipment, vehicles, tools, pumps, hoses, and other machinery used during the response. He notes that decontamination will be required: (1) whenever equipment is reused or repositioned within the operation, (2) before any repair or maintenance activities, and (3) as equipment is demobilized and returned to its owner.
