Amelia Savage (Assistant Field Manager and Wildlife Biologist with the Bureau of Land Management) anticipates significant bird casualties if the spill plume escapes containment and impacts the Laramie River floodplain at the confluence with Grayrocks Reservoir. She characterizes the environment as a migratory waterbird staging area for ducks, geese, and pelicans, as well as a foraging habitat for pheasant, doves, wild turkey, and sharp-tailed grouse. As such, Ms. Savage recommends for HFSM to acquire scaring devices, such as propane canons, to minimize potential bird impacts. This is a Drill!
